A “floating ship” usually refers to the physical principle of buoyancy, where ships displace water to float, or a rare atmospheric phenomenon called a superior mirage (Fata Morgana), making ships appear to hover or float above the water due to light bending in layers of different air temperatures, explaining sightings of “ghost ships”.
